![]() Many studies have demonstrated the herbicidal effects of several essential oils and their possible use as substitutes for chemical herbicides. The findings presented in this work serve as an important step forward in improving the understanding of the thermodynamic characteristics (such as temperatures and phases) of intact complex molecules in a hot and intricate system such as the vapor-plasma plume of a laser-induced plasma, which is essential in both fundamental studies of plasmas and of laser-induced plasma based analytical applications. The observations in the present study comprise (to our knowledge) the first direct evidence of hot water and intact complex organic gas molecules in the vicinity of the laser-induced plasma. The temperatures of the water vapors in the vapor-plasma plume were found to be evolving with time and ranging from > 2700 K at 10 µs to ∼ 1500 K at 200 µs after plasma initiations using HITRAN/HAPI based molecular spectral analysis. The temperatures of these molecular vapors in the hot and transient vapor-plasma plume of the laser-induced plasma were estimated to be well above room temperatures during their existence. Time resolved long-wave infrared emissions were also studied to assess the temporal behaviors of these gaseous molecular emitters. Vibration-rotation signatures of intact water and complex organic molecules in vapor phase were detected, identified, and mode-assigned in the long-wave infrared emissions of laser-induced plasma. Usage patterns for the site will be discussed. Data from the site have found applications in industrial, research, and educational settings. The next phase of the evolution of the site will be the addition of tools to aid researchers in getting data from the site. Several challenges were encountered in the development of systems and conventions for concisely and accurately displaying chemical data on the Internet. A major goal of the project was to provide convenient access to all types of chemical data. These features make the site an excellent tool for data evaluation. Most of the collections in the site provide extensive coverage of the literature in their field and include relevant metadata such as the experiment type or important auxiliary data. Automated tools are used to check data prior to its inclusion in the web site. ![]() Thermochemical properties of many reactions that support enthalpy of formation values are provided. The thermochemical data available include enthalpies of formation, enthalpies of phase transitions, and heat capacities. The site was established in 1996 and has grown to encompass a wide variety of thermochemical, ion energetics, solubility, and spectroscopic data. The NIST Chemistry WebBook () is an Internet site that provides access to chemical and physical property data both from NIST and other sources. ![]()
