![]() ![]() I would love to come back and experience the theater when I can actually get popcorn and a drink. The actual experience was amazing and I was happy within just a few minutes into the movie. I arrived really irritated but luckily there was no line and I had enough time to get into the theater while the previews were still going on. I had to go down an elevator, across and then up an escalator, and then back behind another restaurant. In the parking garage, I had no idea where to park or how to walk to the theater. There was no U-turn areas around so I had to drive a few minutes out of my way. I did not know I had to park in a parking garage before the theater. I ordered my ticket online which was easy but getting to the theater was so irritating that I was completely frustrated by the time I got there. I wanted to try out this theater because it had a 4D Experience. This kind of stuff is great for like 15 minute theme park films but not a whole two hour movie. I honestly am so glad that I saw Ready Player One last week and didn’t have this be my first experience with it. ![]() Oh, did I mention it’s in 3D? So after getting rained on, you had to take your glasses off and wipe them off in order to see. Also, in a scene where it was raining, they had it rain in the theater for a solid 30 seconds. I think the theory was that they would simulate lightning or camera flashes but all it did was light up the whole theater taking you out of the moment. There were these weird flashing lights that would go off. ![]() It got so bad that someone went and got a theater employee who came in and said, “oh there is just something wrong with the program, it will stop when the movie starts.” The water effect was also aim right at my lap, which was just super awkward, luckily you could turn that off. After we sat down, the seats would violently vibrate every 5 minutes and then would proceed to poke us every 30 seconds. The seats would also vibrate and had pokers in them. I left the theater and my tailbone was it so much pain. Every time I would finally find a spot that was sort of comfortable, the seat would shift downward almost knocking me out of the seat. Which caused me to spend most of the movie leaning on my friend so that I didn’t get to close to the stranger sitting next to me. They were kind of small and were uncomfortably close to the seat next to you. Imagine having to sit through Shrek 4D at Universal for 2 hours. The quality of the story and the effectiveness of the storytelling are the factors that will make a 4D theater succeed, and all the other components must support those two primary factors. The 4DX theater is probably one of the worst movie experiences I’ve ever had. An audience can get just as bored in a dark 4D theater as in a light-filled 4D theater. It’s not being in the dark that makes the experience immersive. One of the things that makes this kind of 4D theater possible is the advancement of cinema technology, so that clear and color-saturated images can appear in an outdoor 4D theater or other setting with a lot of ambient light. You don’t need a darkened room to immerse your audience – and we will probably see more 4D theaters that are in spaces other than darkened rooms. Because "Believe" is not in a black box, it is in an open-air amphitheater. The "Believe" experience demonstrates that 4D theater is 4D theater whether it is inside a "black box" space or not. This 4D theater also incorporates audience participation by selecting a boy or girl and introducing them and making the child’s future ambitions known to the audience, thereby part of the 4D theater storytelling, and integrating a picture of the child into the 4D theater cinema presentation, so making it part of the 4D theater audiovisuals. It is a complex 4D theater projection system. ![]() The cinematic portion of this 4D theater employs a huge, hi-definition video screen that at times divides into two screens, moving apart to the right and the left, and at times the two split into four rectangles, and the rectangles rotate. The "Believe" 4D theater supports the conservationist mission of SeaWorld to infuse people with a sense of connection to the animals of the sea. All are tightly integrated to tell an uplifting story and the resulting guest experience is immersive, educational, entertaining and transformative: 4D theater at its best. "Believe" combines live action (killer whales and their trainers), cinema (giant screen above the horseshoe-shaped pool), music (a dramatic score that plays back during each show) and water effects (those who sit in the "splash zone" forward seats experience the water effects most intensely). What makes it 4D theater? It has the multimedia factor of 4D theater, for starters. "Believe" at SeaWorld is an immersive 4D theater experience. ![]()
